4.2 USB Internal Connection Header
The USB also has a four (4) pin 0.100” single row header for internal USB connection to a USB header
on a PC motherboard. This header is located directly behind the standard USB connector on the board.
The pin out of the header is:

•
The enclosed cable with the four pin single row receptacle at each end is used to connect to the
motherboard header. The plus (+) connection should be the RED wire.
•
It should be connected to pin #1 of the USB board header that is marked with a plus (
+
) sign.
•
The red wire should connect to the Plus (+) terminal on the motherboard header which is
typically marked as pin 1 also.
NOTES:
Do not reverse the cable – damage could be done to the Watchdog or the motherboard.
Do not use the regular USB cable if using the motherboard header connection.
4.2.1 Internal Mounting
The USB can be mounted internally by removing the standard PC bracket and using #4-40 hardware.
There is a mechanical drawing file on the CD which shows the dimensional information for the
mounting holes on the board. The board is light enough to be installed with double side Velcro tape as
well.
4.3 Driver Information
When you plug in the USB cable the board will identify itself to system as an HID device and the OS
will assign it to the HID driver. This driver should already be installed on the PC as part of the standard
install.
The CD has a program to tickle the Watchdog without having to write any software. See the
BPI_WDog_Tickle directory on the CD for a “tickle” program that can be setup to install
automatically.
