CHAPTER 3
OPERATION
GENERAL OPERATION AND OVERVIEW
This section provides an overview of the operation and process of a Bennett Hydrogen dispenser, including the main operator
interfaces, components of hydrogen plumbing system, and summary of the fueling process.
DISPENSER FUNCTIONALITY
The block diagrams for the Bennett Hydrogen dispenser shown
provide a high-level view of the hydrogen flow, control
system, and user interfaces throughout the fueling process.

BASIC PROCESS DESCRIPTION
NOTE:
If the dispenser stops during the delivery of fuel, check the display for an error code. If one is present, refer to
Diagnostics
section.
NOTE:
Be sure the pump is authorized by the console or is in stand-alone mode.
NOTE: DO NOT
press the Emergency Stop button to stop a fill except in cases of emergency. For all other situations,
the operator should use the
CANCEL
button on the display to stop a sale.
1.
The fueling process requires the FCEV operator to position the vehicle in front of the dispenser, shut off the vehicle,
and initiate the process with the user interface located on the payment panel of the front door. The payment panel
screen will provide instructions to the operator and prompt them to follow the procedure below:
2.
For dispensers in standalone mode: skip this step.
Operator will enter payment information (multiple payment options
are available at the dispenser). The dispenser will then send that information to the station point-of-sale (P.O.S.). If the
transaction is approved, the P.O.S. will provide a signal allowing the dispenser to begin the fueling process.
3.
Operator will lift the nozzle from the nozzle boot.
4.
If the dispenser includes multiple pressure classes, operator will press the button corresponding to the appropriate
option for their vehicle. If the dispenser only includes one option, there will be a single button that still needs to be
pressed to begin the process.
5.
Operator will connect the nozzle to their vehicle. Depending on the options selected, the nozzle may be equipped with
the ability to communicate with the vehicle and receive information on the vehicle’s state of charge (S.O.C)
. If this
information is unavailable, the fueling process can still occur; however, the protocol must convert to a more
conservative control system to avoid over-heating or over-pressurization.
