FLIGHT PATH SYMBOL
The Flight Path Symbol (FPS) displays the flight path angle and drift
information in real time. The FPS serves as a graphical representation
of the airplane’s lateral and vertical path (as opposed to the direction
the airplane is pointing). For example, when a lateral drift is present
(due to a crosswind or otherwise), the airplane reference symbol on the
PFD is orientated to the airplane heading (that does not match the air-
plane track). The FPS in this case would display a lateral offset to indi-
cate the track of the airplane as opposed to the heading.

The vertical path display of the FPS is oriented around the ZPRL. When
the FPS is on the ZPRL, the airplane is in level flight. When the FPS is
above or below the ZPRL, the airplane is climbing or descending
respectively. The position of the FPS in relation to the ZPRL also indi-
cates the climb or descent gradient (for example, when the FPS is 3
°
below the ZPRL, the airplane is in a 3
°-
descent).
NOTE: The FPS is only displayed when SVS is turned on.
