APPLIANCE FUNCTION
Slots situated on the side of the lamp allow the sensor to come
into contact with the outside environment.
The lamp switch has 3 settings allowing the unit to be used as a
portable lamp, carbon monoxide (CO) detector or emergency
lamp (automatic activation); it may also be used for a combina-
tion of these functions (see Fig.1).
When the lamp is connected to the mains the green LED lights
up, indicating that the battery charger is working, and two brief
sound signals are emitted to indicate that the sensor has been
activated. The two sound signals are also emitted every time the
user moves the switch to a position that enables the sensor.
In the presence of a minimal concentration of CO, ranging from
100 to 500 ppm (parts per million), the alarm will be activated
after a period of between 14 and 6 minutes (depending on the
CO concentration); the lamp will turn on and emit loud intermit-
tent sound warnings about one second apart.
NOTE: the likelihood of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning
depends on the concentration present and the duration of expo-
sure.
(Ex.: 40 minutes of exposure at a concentration of 600 ppm indu-
ce vomiting. Data provided by U.S. ARMY HUMAN ENGINEE-
RING LABORATORY).

OPERATION
WITH UNIT USED
AS A PORTABLE LAMP
If a blackout occurs or the Beghelli Salvalavita is being used as
a portable lamp, both the lamp and gas sensor will remain acti-
ve until the batteries run out (see technical specifications). After
using the unit as a portable lamp, set it back in place according
to the directions provided.
SELF-DIAGNOSIS
The electrical efficiency of the CO sensor is automatically
checked every 2.5 seconds.
Should any fault be detected, a sound warning of about 0.5
seconds will be emitted every 8 seconds until the fault is elimi-
nated or the detector is switched off.
However, it is recommended to replace the sensor after a
period of about 4 years.
PROCEDURE FOLLOWING AN ALARM SIGNAL
- Open all windows immediately in order to air the room(s).
- Immediately turn off or extinguish gas burners, stoves, wood
fires, internal-combustion engines or any suspected sources of
carbon monoxide.
- Any persons present should be made to leave and conducted
to a well-ventilated place (balcony or outdoor area).
- Should any persons manifest evident symptoms of poisoning,
consult a physician immediately.
- If the cause behind the formation of carbon monoxide is not
immediately identifiable, contact your installer.
IMPORTANT: proper maintenance of gas appliances - or any
appliances that work by combustion - and of all related equip-
ment can prevent the formation of carbon monoxide.
During routine cleaning operations, care should be taken not to
strike or damage the appliance by contact with solvents.
For further information on using and installing Beghelli
Salvalavita contact Beghelli Customer Services.
If the Beghelli Salvalavita is also to perform an emergency
lighting function, it must be connected to the electricity
mains using the power cord provided and the switch must
be set on position (I).
The lamp will turn on automatically should a power failure
occur and will remain lit for a maximum of 1 hour and 30
minutes.
When the power supply is restored, the unit will automatically
switch to the battery-recharging mode.
SITING THE LAMP
The Beghelli Salvalavita for Carbon Monoxide can be sited
anywhere in the room since the conversion of oxygen into
monoxide occurs in a uniform manner.
However, it is recommended to position the lamp at a height of
between 140 and 180 cm from the floor, keeping it out of the
immediate vicinity of fans or windows.
Additional cautionary notes:
- To prevent false alarms and malfunctioning, do not use the
lamp in places where spray cans, steam sources, or substan-
ces containing solvents and alcohol are used continuously or
where there is a heavy presence of fumes.
- The lamp must not be used in a place where the temperature
is below 5°C or above 35°C.
- The Beghelli Salvalavita must be installed in an upright position
in the room where there is a possibility of carbon monoxide for-
ming.
NOTE: if the lamp is sited other than as directed above, it will not
be guaranteed to perform efficiently.
