These reports are very similar in appearance to each other and all have the same column
headings. The arrangement and content of a report can be varied by choosing specific sorting
and layout options. The following section, Report Sorting Options (Section 12.2.2), describes
each of the sorting and layout options in detail.
12.2.2 Report Sorting Options
The term sorting refers to how the results are ordered on a report. One of three sorting options
for each report type can be chosen: rank, barcode, or date. As much as practicable, each type of
report contains this information—use these options to sort the reports as desired.
Some sorting options are not appropriate for certain report types, and the system software
prevents making inappropriate combinations of sorting options, report types, and layout options.
For example, when selecting Slide Results sorted by rank or barcode, with the
Tray
option
selected, the Date button in the Sort Order field is dimmed, which means it is not available for
selection. The
Tray
option is available only when sorting reports by date.
For best results, refer to the discussions on each report type and select options in accordance
with the suggestions provided in the tables following each sample report.
12.2.3 Report Layout Options
The term layout refers to how the slide results are presented on a report. One of two layouts can
be selected: slide or tray. Each type of layout has its uses and most laboratories will print reports
using a combination of layouts that best suit their needs.
The tray layout lists the complete slide results for a single tray and is presented in a graphical
format to facilitate the sorting of slides when the report is placed alongside the tray. This type of
report might be useful if slide trays are distributed without first sorting the slides into results
categories.
If your laboratory sorts processed slides according to their results (
Review or QC Review )
printing reports using the slide layout will most likely be used. This type of report lists the results
for up to 32 slides per page.
Each layout option is described in the following subsections. Keep in mind that not all of the
layout options are suitable for each type of report.
Tray Layout
Tray layouts are always sorted by date. This is true when printing or reprinting results. When
sorted by date, they are printed in the order of processing allowing the slide results to match the
order of the slides as they appear in the tray. The paper report can then be placed next to the
appropriate tray and easily match slides with the slide results.

2 illustrates a typical tray layout. The callout numbers in the figure correspond to the
following items:

The report header information. This includes the instrument name, print date, print set
number, and the process mode.
2 The Tray
ID
. This matches the unique barcode label affixed to each tray.
3 The slide
ID
number. This comes from the unique barcode label affixed to each slide.
4 The position of the slide in the tray.
