Windows 8.1 Start Screen
The start screen displays many programs in tiles. To open a program, tap on
the tile. You will be asked to login to your Microsoft account if you open apps
that need to connect to a Microsoft account such as Store, Mail or Skype.

Slide to the right from the left side of the screen
to switch between running applications.

to open the settings menu.
