TRANSPORTING
TRANSPORTING SAFELY
When truck/trailer mounted, this machine is designed to
be transported between local work sites.
Learn route limits (overhead clearances, bridge weight
limits, etc.) and laws/ordinances affecting driving on
public roads with heavy equipment:
♦
Know measurements and weight of machine
when mounted on truck/trailer. Be sure machine
is within legal limits for highway transporting.
♦
Obtain proper permits for transporting machine.
♦
Place proper warnings on machine for highway
travel (such as Slow-Moving-Vehicle signs, Wide-
Load signs, or flags on furthest projections of
load), and whether an escort is needed.
♦
Observe all safe driving rules including slowing
down for curves and avoiding rapid steering or
braking.
♦
Never ride on the machine while transporting.
PREPARING THE MACHINE FOR
TRANSPORTING
1. Raise machine stabilizers to fully retracted position.
2. Lower the boom and grapple to the truck/trailer bed
and secure with chains so that they can not move in
any way.
3. On Crawler and Hydrostatic Rough Terrian
Machines. The swing lock will engage automatically
when the machine is shut off. The machine should
still be chained to prevent rotation.
NOTE: Do not put chains over or against hydraulic
lines or hoses.
Chain boom and grapple to truck/trailer bed before
transporting machine. Failure to do so may allow
boom and grapple to move, causing death, severe
injury, or property damage.
4. Push the Control Power Switch to OFF position.
5. Shut down the machine to a zero state of energy.
See "Shut-down Procedure".
6. Turn the Battery Disconnect Switch to OFF.
7. Always tape or cap exhaust pipe to prevent air from
spinning turbocharger while vehicle is transported at
highway speeds. The turbochargers depend upon
engine oil pressure to lubricate shaft bearings and
may be damaged if spun dry. Be sure to remove tape
after transporting or before starting engine.
