The INF file is in the C:\Program Files\IdtMsrwWorkShop\USB Driver\ folder.   Browse and 
select this folder and Click Next > to continue.   There is a warning window that the INF file 
is not registered; Click “

Continue Anyway

”.   Click Finish to complete the INF installation. 

USB-CDC Setup 

The following steps provide a check on the USB-CDC COM port selected by the 
operating system.   Open the Windows Control Panel and follow the selections (System, 
Hardware Tab, and Device Manager) to Port (COM & LPT).   Expand the Port (COM & 
LPT) folder.   There should be an item “ID TECH USB CDC MagStripe Reader and Writer 
(COM x)”, where x is a Port number.   WorkShop can only support ports numbered 1 
through 10.   If the port number is less than10, stop here and close the open windows. 

If the port number is greater than 10, the port number must be changed to a number 
between 1 & 10.   The new port number is set in the properties.   Right click “ID TECH USB 
CDC MagStripe Reader and Writer (COM x)”, select Property, select Advanced, and 
select a number in “COM Port Number” menu box that does not conflict with another 
COM Port setting, click OK, and close the open windows. 

Using WorkShop 

In the “Programs” tab of the Windows START button, double click the “IDT Reader/Writer 
WorkShop” to RUN the application.   The Password Dialog Box appears the first time the 
installed application is RUN.   Select a password, confirm it, and click OK.   Each 
subsequent time WorkShop is RUN, a dialog box opens to request the password.   Write down 
the password if there is a chance it could be forgotten. 

The password is required each time the WorkShop is RUN.
