Safety Advisory
This analog switching amplifier is not
intended for use where personal safety
depends on proper device function (not a
safety component per the EU Machine
Directive). Read the user's guide carefully
before startup.
Programming switching outputs in Teach-in
There are two ways to use teach-in programming
a) Connect the analogcontactor to the BES 516-4
programmer. A programming guide is included with
the unit.
b) Connect the Control input (C) through a switch to +.
Follow the programming steps below.
Caution! Check for proper wiring. The load circuits must
not be short circuited so that the analogcontactor can be
programmmed.
1 Install the sensor in the machine and connect to the
analog switching amplifier using the cable connection.
2 Connect the Control input (C) through a switch to +
(Fig. 2, 3).
3 Turn on programming mode: Hold the button down for
at least 5 seconds.
4 Bring the object to be detected (machine member etc.)
to the desired switching position or to a defined point
(e.g. 4 mm from the sensor) within the sensor's
linearity range (Fig. 1).
Fig. 1: Analog signal in the linearity range
5 Save switching distance: Hold the button down for 2-4
seconds. The first LED comes on. When the button is
released the next switching output is automatically
selected. The next LED flashes.
6 Program switching outputs two and three as
described under 4. and 5. above. If no more outputs
are to be programmed, exit programming mode as
follows:
Press the button for max. two seconds so that the 3rd
output is selected. Pres the button again for 2
seconds to return the sensor to operating mode.
7 After programming is complete make the user-side
controller connections. In operating mode a fixed
connection between the C input and ground is
recommended.
Functional description
Use of the analog switching amplifiers allows any analog
sensor having a voltage output of 0...10 V to be
equipped in addition with up to 3 binary switchpoints
having a resolution of 8 bits. The analog switching
amplifier uses the built-in M12 socket to connect with
type BAW analog sensors, BIL magneto-inductive
sensors and BOD optical distance sensors.
A 7-conductor cable connects the analog switching
amplifier to the controller which processes the binary
switching signals and the analog signal (0...10 V).
The switching outputs are programmable using the
teach-in procedure.
