Intended use
Sensors of the product series BCS S04K501
supervise the fill level of liquid, paste-like or
granular media in containers or tubes. They are
suitable for limit detection and dry running
protection.

Flawless function in accordance with the
specification as in the technical data is ensured
only when using original BALLUFF accessories,
and use of any other components will void the
warranty.
Modifications to the sensor or non-approved
use are not permitted and will result in loss of
warranty and void any liability claims against
the manufacturer.

application in which the safety of
persons is dependent on the function of
the device (not a safety component acc.
To EU Machinery Directive).
This mounting guide is intended for qualified
persons only. Read this guide carefully before
installing or commissioning this device.
The operator is responsible for ensuring that
local safety regulations are observed. In
particular, the operator must take measures to
ensure that a defect in the device will not result
in hazards to persons or equipment. If defects
or non-clearable faults in the device occur, take
it out of service and secure against
unauthorized use.

The device can be installed in any position

Installation in tubes starting from DN25
Correct function and sealing of connection is
only guaranteed with BALLUFF adapters
Do not attach additional sealing material at
sensors tip
Protect sensor tip from UV radiation
After installation confirm tightness of the
connection
Installat ion w ith process adap ter
For hygienic connections according to
EHEDG an appropriate adapter must be
used.
1.
Make sure that all sealing surfaces are
clean. Remove protective covers shortly
before installation. When sealing surfaces
are damaged replace sensor and/or
adapter.
2.
Apply appropriate, approved lubricant to
thread.
3.
In case of clamp or screw adapter remove
the adapter and fix it with clamping
fixture.
4.
Insert sensor in adapter and screw in
hand-tight. Prevent mechanical stress to
sealing surfaces.
5.
Tighten the sensor with a screw-wrench
Torque: 20… 25 Nm
6.
In case of clamp- or screw adapters install
the sensor together with adapter in
application.
7.
Run a cleaning before first use.
Installat ion on container wa ll
The sensor can be installed on a container wall
using the G1/2 thread. If necessary a
application specific sealing can be inserted.
Operation
Teach with DI inpu t
Teach is started by connecting input DI to L+,
the setpoint is stored on disconnecting DI from
L+.
Full teach: Connect DI for 2… 7 seconds to L+
Empty teach: Connect DI for 7… 12 seconds
to L+
Successful teach is signalized by 3 x times slow
blinking of output state (LED). When input DI is
connected for more than 12 seconds to L+ the
teach procedure is aborted and LED flashes
several times. To start a new teach, disconnect
DI from L+.
At sensors with IO-Link capability the
teach input DI can be disabled using
parameter “Device Access Lock – Local
parameterization”.
