Intended use
The Configuration Tool is used in conjunction with the USB
adapter for configuring magnetic encoder systems of type
BML-S1G…, BML SL1… and BML BM1… . Flawless
function in accordance with the specifications in the
technical data is ensured only when using original Balluff
accessories. Use of any other components will void the
warranty.
Non-approved use is not permitted and will result in the
loss of warranty and liability claims against the
manufacturer.
General safety notes
Installation and startup
may only be performed by
trained specialists.
The
operator
is responsible for ensuring that local safety
regulations are observed. In particular, the operator must
take steps to ensure that a defect in the position
measuring system will not result in hazards to persons or
equipment.
DANGER
Uncontrolled system movement
When starting up, if the magnetic encoder system is part
of a closed loop system whose parameters have not yet
been set, the system may perform uncontrolled move-
ments. This could result in personal injury and equipment
damage.

The system must be taken out of operation before
configuration.

The sensor head may only be connected to the USB
adapter for configuration.
►
After using the Configuration Tool remove the USB
adapter.
Function
The sensor head and sensor module are connected to the
PC through the USB adapter.
The sensor head and sensor module can be configured on
the PC using the BML Configuration Tool PC software.
Using this tool you can read and write the BML parame-
ters, perform a calibration and display the position, signal
quality and real-time errors.
Connecting the USB adapter
The USB adapter may not be connected to the
PC when installing the configuration tool. It will
be set up after the configuration tool is started
for the first time.
Connecting the sensor head/sensor module using
the USB adapter
:
1.
Unplug connector from sensor head/sensor module.
2.
Connect an appropriate cable to the USB adapter
using a SUB-D9 female.
3.
Connect cable to sensor head/sensor module using a
corresponding plug.
Connecting the PC:
1.
Connect the USB cable to the USB adapter.
2.
Connect the USB cable to the PC.
