17. Bonding System
Note: Proper galvanic protection or “zincing” of the boat can vary due to salinity, temperature,
pollution, and flow of water. To assure correct galvanic protection, test the boats bonding
system after it has been in the water for 24 hours or more.

Check for sacrificial zincs on trim tabs, transom, and rudder.
Note: The propeller shaft is connected to the bonding system via a shaft brush and therefore
protected by the transom zinc in the absence of shaft zinc. Verify the shaft brush is
functioning properly and in contact with the propeller shaft.
Note: If installing propeller shaft zincs, they should be installed 4” - 6” forward of the strut. Make
sure shaft zincs are properly secured to the shaft. Loose shaft zinc will slide aft and may
cause shaft and/or strut damage.
Note: Propeller shaft zincs expend themselves faster because of their greater velocity. This
material loss does not go to galvanic protection as the loss is through abrasion rather than
electrical output.
Note: Over zincing of the vessel can cause zincs to be wasted and cause damage to some
bottom paints. Test the boats bonding system after it has been in the water for 24 hours or
more.
Do not paint any sacrificial zincs. Bottom paint interferes with the operation of the
sacrificial zincs.
18. Final Inspection

Check the fit of the drawers, doors, and latches after launching, and adjust if
necessary.

Clean boat throughout, both interior and exterior.

Review Owner's Manual and all equipment manuals with owner.
