Chapter 6
Documentation

What are documents?

This chapter describes ways to manage documents. There are different types of
documents:

•

2D scanned images

•

2D video clips of scans

•

3D data sets

•

Pro Package reports

In this chapter, the term “document” refers to all of these types of documents unless
a particular type is specified.

Patient Archiving

The patient archiving system contains information about patients and examinations,
including comments about patients or documents. When you save a document during
an examination, it is saved directly into the patient archiving system on the scanner.
If the document browser is open, it is automatically updated to show the saved
documents from the current examination.

NOTE:

The patient archiving system can be password-protected. See page 115.

Hard Disk Quota

The scanner hard disk does not have unlimited storage capacity. Each document that
you save to the patient archiving system takes up space on the hard disk. The scanner
checks the space on the hard disk each time you enter a new patient ID. If the hard
disk is getting full, you will be notified:

when there is no more than 1 GB available space on the hard disk.

when there is no more than 500 MB available on the hard disk.

when there is no more than 300 MB available on the hard disk. At this point, you
will not be allowed to save any more information to the hard disk.

To clear space on the hard disk, you must delete some documents. You can archive
them to a CD or PACS (if you have DICOM installed) before you delete them from
the hard disk.

NOTE:

If you have archived the documents to a CD, wait to delete them from

the hard disk until you have successfully burned the archive CD. See “Using
CDs” on page 109. If you have archived them to a PACS, make sure that they
have been transferred successfully into the system before you delete them from
the scanner hard disk.
