It is very important to cross-tighten the bolts. The assembly is complete when the visible rubber sealing gasket between the
flanges is slightly compressed.
C. Hydrant with automatic drain: Connect the Ø20mm PEL-pipe with the drain nipple in the lower barrel. Place it in the gravel
as described above (A).
Hydrant with manual drain: Connect the Ø20mm PEL-pipe with the two drain nipples - one in the lower barrel and the other
in the adjustable ground cover.
D. When the hydrant is installed, it must be operated from fully closed to fully open position and back to make sure no
obstructions are present.
3. OPERATION
Open:
Open the hydrant cover – A-type by unscrewing the storz cover, B-type by turning the oval nut ¼ turn.
Connect a hose to the hose nozzle. Ensure free passage through the pipe, to enable air release. Turn the operation top-oval nut
counterclockwise until water flows. Open the hydrant until a solid stop is felt. Do not over torque the hydrant! The total number
of turns required to open the hydrant is 20.
Close:
Turn the operation top-oval nut clockwise until the water flow stops. Do not over torque the hydrant! The maximum torque
required to close the hydrant is 125 Nm. Release stress from the stem threads by turning the operation nut slightly counter-
clockwise. Unscrew the hose from the hose nozzle. Do not install the hose nozzle cover until the hydrant is completely drained
for water.
Draining:
Hydrant with automatic drain: When the water pressure inside the hydrant barrel is released, a membrane valve in the lowest
part of the hydrant will open and automatically drain the residual water inside the hydrant barrel.
Hydrant with manual drain: After the hydrant has been closed, the residual water inside the hydrant barrel need to be drained
manually. Unscrew the inside triangle head bolt in the ground cover at the ground level. To completely empty the hydrant barrel
for water, place a special air pump at the hose outlet nozzle and pump in air until no more water is drained through the
drainage hole. Reinstall the bolt in the ground cover. Close/reinstall the outlet nozzle cover.
4. MAINTENANCE
The hydrant is virtually maintenance-free but should be inspected yearly. It is sufficient to open and close the hydrant once
(test of function); conduct as described in section 3.
