Any other type of connector / cable assembly may
not provide adequate weatherproofing and lead to
early failure.
Installing RJ-45
connectors
Crimped connectors for
installation at the
lightning surge
suppressor end of the
cable, and at the IDUspe
front panel cable
connection. For the industrial grade Cat5e ODU cable and
the supplied shielded RJ-45 connectors (with
strain relief), always use the crimp tool
designed for these connectors
. A
recommended crimp tool is available from Aviat as
Part No. 008-311001-001.
For the standard grade Cat5e jumper cable, an
industry-standard RJ-45 crimp tool is required.
When removing the
jacket Take great care when removing the jacket to keep
the outer shield intact.
Planning the
route
Protection for the cable The route chosen must provide physical protection
for the cable (protection against accidental
damage).
Keep access to tower
and services clear The cable must be positioned so that there is
unimpeded access to the tower and to services on
the tower.
Ease of running and
fastening Use a route which minimizes potential for damage
to the cable jacket and avoids excessive cable
re-bending.
Installing the
cable
Cable jacket Keep cable clear of sharp edges
Cable support Rod support kits or similar must be used across
unsupported sections of the cable run so that the
cable cannot flex in the wind.
Bend radius Ensure the minimum bend radius for the cable is
not exceeded.
Attaching the cable to
the ODU Ensure the ODU connector is firmly hand tightened
onto the ODU and weatherproofed. For
weatherproofing instructions, see
Weatherproofing on page 19
.
Do not attach the ODU cable ground wire to the
ODU until after the ODU connector has been
weatherproofed.
