In this example, the Mediation Server module is installed at the branch.
The SR4134 provides connections to analog phones and external PSTN trunks and the CS 1000 provides
the necessary call routing for the analog and (non-OCS) IP Deskphones. For OC phones and clients, the
OCS server manages primary routing, but can also forward calls to the CS 1000 network (through the
Mediation Server) for routing as required. For calls between the CS 1000 and OCS networks, the Mediation
Server provides the necessary transcoding to allow communication between the two networks.
In a network containing the CS 1000 with the Microsoft OCS, the
sip-ua sip-server
command must
point to the CS 1000 Node IP address.
CS 1000, OCS, and SR4134 call flows
When an on-site user places a call from the OC client to a PSTN destination, the call moves
through the network infrastructure as follows:
1. A user places a call from an Enterprise Voice client by dialing the number or clicking
the contact information in Microsoft Office Communicator or Outlook.
2. The OCS Server, based on location profile and call routing policies, forwards the
call to the Mediation Server running in the SR4134.
3. The Mediation Server routes the call to the CS 1000 network.
4. The CS 1000, based on configured call routing, forwards the call to the SR4134
Media Gateway.
5. The Media Gateway, based on topology, applies local dialing rules and passes the
call to the PSTN.
The following figure shows the signaling and media flows within a network where the Mediation
Server is integrated with a CS 1000 and an OCS server in the Enterprise Voice infrastructure.
The figure shows the flow for an OC client call to a TDM port.
