Installing the Astron Solar Bulkhead Light Light
Please see image on previous page. Access the internal area by unscrewing the four screws that surround the glass shade.
Once these screws are removed, gently lift off the metal cage followed by the glass shade. Offer the fitting up and mark the
two mounting screw holes. Prepare the holes and screw the light fitting into place using the supplied screws and screw plugs.
Before you replace the glass shade and metal cage you will need to switch the light on in either ‘P’ (Powersaving) or ‘S’
(Standard) mode. Powersaving mode is roughly 30% dimmer to the eye than Standard mode, but the current is halved so the
runtime is doubled each night. Powersaving mode is perfect for winter use (November to February) or for year round use if your
solar panel location is less than ideal.
Once you have chosen your preferred mode replace the glass shade, metal cage and secure the four screws tightly. Now
connect the solar panel cable to the light fitting. The Astron Solar Bulkhead is fully automatic so it will come on automatically
at dusk and turn off automatically at dawn so there is no further need to tend to the light.
Troubleshooting
If you are encountering problems with your Astron Solar Bulkhead Light it is more than likely something you can resolve yourself. An
Astron Solar Bulkhead Light that has its solar panel in a poor location will struggle to work for long after dark, but that doesn’t mean
there is a fault with the unit. Please remember that your Astron Solar Bulkhead Light will come with some charge and will likely work
for a few nights even if the solar panel is poorly located. Please try the troubleshooting tips below before contacting your retailer.
Recharge Procedure
1.
Double check the location of your solar panel to ensure it is as South facing as possible and in a clear location.
2.
Turn the Astron Solar Bulkhead Light
off
at the switch leave it to recharge for 3-5 days.
3.
After 3-5 days return to the Astron Solar Bulkhead Light and turn it back on at the switch.
4.
If your light still does not illuminate after dark please contact your retailer.
Please remember that the Astron Solar Bulkhead light will not operate when the solar panel is in daylight or if there is a nearby
artificial light source intefereing with the panel after dark.
If your light is not working after dark, please ensure that there are no nearby light sources reaching the solar panel as these will
cause the unit to assume it is still light daylight which will prevent it from illuminating. These could be bright indoor or outdoor lights
in your property or your neighbors property, or nearby streetlights. If you are unsure disconnect the solar panel from the light to see
if it comes on. If it does come on then you will need to reposition your solar panel to avoid the light source that is causing the issue.
Water Ingress
The Astron Solar Bulkhead Light offers a high level of protection against water ingress, but this protection is not unlimited. The Astron
Solar Bulkhead Light must be mounted above ground level so that it is not resting on anything. If your light is resting on the ground
or on a surface where water can accumulate it is likely that water will get into the light over time which will result in malfunction
and will invalidate your warranty. Please ensure that the glass shade with its rubber gasket is correctly seated and that the metal
cage is screwed on tightly to ensure the unit is fully sealed.
Replacing the battery
The supplied 18650 3.7V rechargeable Lithium Ion battery is designed to work for several years before it needs replacing. If you are
experiencing issues within the first year of owning your lights it is unlikely that replacing the battery will resolve the problem (please
see troubleshooting). When it is time to replace your battery unscrew the four screws (see image on previous page) to access the
internal area. Gently wiggle the battery compartment lid off to access the battery which can then be removed and replaced.
Please dispose of the dead battery responsibly and in accordance with your local waste disposal guidelines.
Maintenance
Clean the surface of the solar panel and light lens with a soft, slightly moistened cloth. Do not use corrosive cleansing agents or
chemical solutions as these may damage surfaces and impair operation. Keep the solar panel free of dirt, debris and snow.
