4.3 Gas supply
4.3.1 Two-gas operation
The AquaVENT
®
FD140 is equipped with an electronic gas mixer for oxygen
(O
2
) and air (AIR). The mixer must be supplied with both gases at a supply
pressure ranging from 270 to 600 kPa.
A check must be carried out to verify that the AIR gas supply can deliver
peak flows of up to 120 l/min and the O
2
gas supply can deliver peak flows
of up to 80 l/min in the specified pressure range.
If one gas supply pressure falls below 200 kPa, the mixer automatically
switches to the other gas supply. If the O
2
gas supply fails and the FiO
2
is
set to a value > 21%, the device will output an alarm message. The same
happens in the event of an AIR gas supply failure and an FiO
2
< 100%.

After connecting the O
2
gas supply tube to the O
2
gas inlet and the AIR gas
supply tube to the AIR gas inlet on the back of the device, check the
connections for leaks. If only one gas is needed for the treatment of a
patient, connect only that type of gas in order to prevent the reflow of a gas
into the central gas supply in the event of a fault.
Warning
Only use gas supply tubes that meet the local standards.
A faulty O
2
or AIR supply can pose a risk to the patient.
