Instructions - Removing Driveshaft Retainer, Related Components, and Applying Loctite
1. Using an appropriate clamping tool, carefully clamp the breather hose to prevent oil from possibly entering the air
silencer assembly.

NOTE: It is recommended to place the clamping tool near the engine side of the hose.
2. Place a protective covering on the fl oor to prevent the snowmobile from becoming damaged; then place the snowmobile
onto its left side.

NOTE: After placing the snowmobile onto its left side, it will be necessary to open the hood. Be sure to place a
covering under the hood to also protect it from becoming damaged.

For Turbo models only
, remove the two springs securing the resonator to the mounting bracket.
4. Remove the three cap screws securing the front of the chain case cover.
5. Remove the top cap screw securing the reverse shifting linkage assembly to the shift pivot.
6. Remove the cap screw securing the reverse shift pivot to the chain case cover. Move the shift pivot aside. Account for
two fl at washers and an axle spacer noting their locations for assembly purposes.
7. Remove the remaining three cap screws securing the chain case cover; then remove the chain case cover.
8. Loosen the chain adjuster; then remove the shaft retainer from the end of the driveshaft.
9. Remove the return spring and the reverse gear.
10. Remove the nut securing the top sprocket to the driven shaft.
11. Remove the chain with top sprocket, bottom sprocket, and reverse idler assembly.
12. Using a parts-cleaning solvent, clean the oil from the threads on the drive and driven shafts.
13. Apply a liberal amount of blue Loctite #243 to the end threads of the driveshaft.
14. Install the chain with top sprocket, bottom sprocket, and reverse idler assembly.
15. Install the reverse gear and the shaft retainer with return spring. Tighten shaft retainer to 9.0 kg-m (65 ft-lb).
16. Apply a liberal amount of green Loctite #609 to the end threads of the driven shaft.
17. Install the driven shaft nut and tighten to 5.5 kg-m (40 ft-lb).
18. Adjust the chain adjuster bolt to the proper tension.
19. Install the chain case cover and related components using existing hardware.
20. Place the snowmobile in an upright position; then remove the clamping tool from the breather hose.
