1. MODEL ATH6G18 ANTENNA
1.1 DESCRIPTION
AR/RF Microwave Instrumentation Model ATH6G18 is a broadband double-ridged horn antenna fed with a
WRD-650 waveguide. It is a rugged aluminum dip-brazed assembly and is well suited for the demanding test
laboratory environment. The ATH6G18 operates over an extended WRD-650 band of 6.0 to 18.0 GHz and is
compatible with AR/RF Microwave Instrumentation solid-state and TWT amplifiers in this frequency range.
Please refer to Section 1.6 for specifications.
CAUTION:
The Model ATH6G18 is capable of generating output voltages that are
dangerous to human life and can cause serious MW burns to human
tissue. Therefore, never stand or walk in front of the antenna when it is
radiating MW energy.
CAUTION:
The Model ATH6G18 and its associated equipment should only be
operated by personnel who are thoroughly familiar with the hazards
inherent to this type of equipment.
CAUTION:
The Model ATH6G18 emits highly concentrated MW fields. Users should
therefore take proper precautions when attempting to make any
measurements with this device. Do not stand or walk in front of the
antenna when it is under power and radiating MW energy.
1.2 ASSEMBLY AND MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS
The ATH6G18 comes ready to use. The ATH6G18 can be tripod-mounted using the ¼-20 threaded hole of the
furnished mounting pad. The mounting pad can be positioned on the horn’s narrow wall or broad wall by
removing the attachment screw. The ATH6G18 can also be supported from its waveguide flange, although this
is not the preferred method of support.
For high-power operation the AT6G18 should be mated directly to WRD-650 waveguide. For lower power
operation, a WRD-650 to Type N adapters and short lengths of low-loss coaxial cable may be used.
1.3 EXTENDED OPERATING BAND
The ATH6G18’s 6.0 to 18 GHz operating band is extended beyond the conventional frequency range of WRD-
650, which is 6.5 to 18.0 GHz. Some WRD-650 waveguide components from other manufacturers may not
function properly below 6.5 GHz. It is therefore important that waveguide components (adapters, couplers,
bends, etc.) used with the ATH6G18 be carefully chosen for acceptable performance within the extended band.
