Rally 50
-
a
CAUTION
Never ride off briskly with a cold engine.
Allow the engine to warm up by riding
slowly for the first few miles.
◆
Do not open throttle while the brakes are
applied.
To ride away, see p. 48 (RIDING).
KICK START
◆
Place the vehicle on the center stand.
◆
Move to the left side of the vehicle.
◆
Move the engine stop switch (1) to the
“
n
” (ON) position.
◆
Make sure the dimmer switch (2) is in the
low beam “
b
” position.
◆
Rotate the ignition key (3) to the “
n
”
(ON) position.
◆
To avoid losing control of your vehicle
while you start it, apply both brakes.
a
CAUTION
Do not depress the kick starter (5) while
the engine is running.
◆
Push down the kick starter (5) with your
right foot, releasing it immediately.
If necessary, repeat the operation until
the engine starts.
STARTING WITH A FLOODED ENGINE
If for some reason the engine fails to start
after several attempts, it is possible that
the engine may be flooded. That is, there
may be too much gasoline in the inlet
manifold and the carburetor.
To purge the flooding:
◆
Depress the starter button “
r
” (4) for a
few seconds (letting the engine spin
over) while holding the throttle (6) in a
completely open position (
Pos. A
).
STARTING AT VERY COLD AMBIENT
TEMPERATURES
When the ambient temperature is very
cold (less than 0°C) it may be difficult to
start the engine on the first try.
If this occurs:
◆
Rotate the cold start lever “
e
” (7) down-
wards.
◆
Depress the starter button “
r
” (4) at the
same time, open the throttle (6) slightly.
If the engine starts:
◆
Release the throttle grip (6).
◆
After letting the engine run for a few sec-
onds, rotate the cold start lever “
e
” (7)
upwards.
◆
If idle is uneven, open the throttle (6)
slightly.
If the engine does not start:
Wait for a few seconds and repeat the
above starting procedure.
◆
If necessary, remove the spark plug, see
p. 76 (SPARK PLUG) and make sure
that it is not wet.
◆
If the spark plug is wet, clean and dry it.
Before reinstalling it:
NOTE
Put a clean cloth on the cylinder,
near the spark plug seat, in order to protect
it from oil sprays.
◆
Press the starter button “
r
” (4) and let
the starter run for about five seconds
without accelerating.
STARTING AFTER A LONG PERIOD
OF INACTIVITY
If the vehicle has not been used for several
weeks, it may not start immediately. This
may be because the fuel in the carburetor
float bowl has evaporated.
In this case:
◆
Press the starter button “
r
” (4) for about
five seconds, in order to ensure the filling
of the float chamber.
