CHECKING THE TRANSMISSION
OIL LEVEL AND TOPPING UP

Carefully read pag. 36 (TRANSMISSION

OIL) and pag. 55 (MAINTENANCE).

Check gearbox oil level every 4000 km.
Change gearbox oil at the end of the
running in period and every 12000 km
afterwards, see pag. 61 (CHANGING THE
TRANSMISSION OIL).

CHECKING

CAUTION

Position the vehicle on firm and flat

ground.

◆

Stop the engine and let it cool down for
at least ten minutes, in order to allow the
oil to flow back to the oil pan and to cool
down.

◆

Keep the vehicle in vertical position, with
the two wheels resting on the ground.

CAUTION

The non-performance of the operations

described above may result in a wrong

measurement of the level.

◆

Make sure that oil level (1) is above one
fourth of the level (

MIN

).

CAUTION

The oil level must neither exceed a half

of the height of the glass, nor fall below

one fourth. In the first case the excess

oil would flow out of the oil pan; in the

second case the engi ne may g et

seriously damaged.

TOPPING UP

If it were necessary to top up, proceed as
follows:

◆

Unscrew and remove the filling cap (2).

◆

Pour a small quantity of oil see pag. 88
(LUBRICANT CHART), and wait for
about one minute to allow the oil to
evenly flow inside the casing.

◆

Make sure that oil level (1) is above one
fourth of the level (

MIN

).

◆

If the oil level is below the specified limit,
top up again with small amounts of oil,
and then check oil level again through
sight glass (1).

◆

Once finished, screw and tighten filler
cap (2) .

WARNING

Tighten the filling cap thoroughly and

make sure that there are no oil leaks.

Periodically check that there are no

leaks in correspondence with the oil

pan cover seal.

Do not use the vehicle with insufficient

lubrication or with contaminated or

unsuitable lubricants, since this would

accelerate the wear of the moving parts

and may also cause irreparable failures.
