Checking signal level and quality of individual transponders on each satellite, if desired:
After aligning the DIRECTV SWM 5-LNB dish (model SL5s), as an optional step, if you want to look at the
signal level and signal quality of the individual transponders on each satellite, use the following System
Setup to switch the meter out of Pointing mode and into Control mode:

1) After completing the System Setup, press DONE or EXIT to return to the main Run screen.
2) With a coax jumper cable still connected from the ODU / LNB port of your XR-3 meter to the
LNBF output port, press the LNB soft-key to apply power to the LNB.
3) Wait approximately 20 seconds after applying LNB power to SWM LNB before taking
measurements.
4) Use the meter’s LNB power soft-key to toggle from LNB1 (101), LNB2 (110/119 combo), LNB3
(99 B-Band), LNB4 (103 A-Band), LNB5 (103 B-Band) as applicable to select whichever satellite
you’d like to test the transponders on.
5) After you’ve used the LNB power soft-key to select the satellite you wish to test, use meter’s
up/down arrow key buttons to scroll through the individual transponders. You will be able to see
the signal level (left bar graph) and demodulated signal quality (right bar graph) and LOCK status
of all transponders on the 101 satellite. You will be able to see the signal level (left bar graph)
instantly and after about a 7 second delay you will see the estimated signal quality (right bar
graph) of all transponders on the 99 and 103 satellites.
The XR-3 satellite meter cannot identify and get a LOCK on the DIRECTV 99 & 103 Ka
satellites. While in Control mode (after dish alignment is complete and after you’ve exited Pointing mode),
the XR-3 can display signal level (dBm) instantly on your left bar graph and after about a 7 second delay
you will see the estimated signal quality on your right bar graph for the DIRECTV 99 & 103 Ka satellite
transponders. The meter will NOT indicate a lock status since the XR-3 meter isn’t able to demodulate or
obtain a lock on the DIRECTV Ka signals due to the DVB-S2 modulation type and level of encryption.
The DIRECTV IRD/satellite receiver can show you the signal quality of the 99 &
103 Ka satellites signals because the receiver is compatible with the signal type and encryption type
found on the Ka satellites.
