Caution: The access ladder weighs 95 lbs and requires one person on a step ladder and two
people on the ground to lift the ladder onto the fixed rails. It is recommended that this
procedure be done with a crane if available.
h.
With the ladder at one end of the fixed rails, adjust the height of the bottom fixed rail so that there is
an equal space between the top and bottom surface of the top fixed rail and the inside of the top
ladder bracket. Position one person on a step ladder to watch the space between the top ladder
bracket and the top fixed rail while doing this adjustment. Carefully loosen the bolt between the
fixed rail and antenna base nearest the ladder then lift the rail up or down until the space between the
top rail and top ladder bracket is about equal. Tighten the bolt in the bottom rail just enough to hold
the rail in position.
i.
Slide the ladder along the fixed rails all the way to the opposite stop bumpers.
Note: the ladder may bind as it slides along the rails until the bottom rail has been adjusted.
It may be necessary to loosen the bolt at the far end of the fixed rail and adjust the bottom
rail up or down as the ladder is slid across for the first time.
j.
Once the ladder has been moved to the other end of the fixed rail repeat step H.
k.
Once the height of the bottom rail has been set, tighten (but do not torque) the two middle bolts
between the bottom rail and the antenna base. Slide the ladder back and forth along the rails a few
times while observing the gap between the top ladder bracket and the top fixed rail. The gap should
remain approximately equal in all positions.
l._
After adjusting the vertical position of the bottom rail, it may be necessary to adjust the horizontal
position of the rail either left or right. Slide the ladder to the center position until the slots in the top
ladder bracket align with the threaded inserts in the top fixed rail. Carefully climb the ladder and
install the two 2" bolts ( item 9) that secure the top ladder bracket to the top fixed rail. Tighten these
bolts to 50 ft-lbs.
Caution: During this stage of the ladder installation the bottom of the ladder will not be
secured with the ball lock pin. The installer must take care not to exert horizontal forces on
the ladder that may cause it to shift left to right.
m.
Once the top two 2" bolts are installed the bottom rail may need to be loosened and adjusted left or
right until the slots in the bottom ladder bracket align with the threaded inserts in the bottom fixed
rail.
