REV: H
Using a PC Mouse and Keyboard to Control the MAX-AVM
The AVM supports direct control via the PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard ports located on
the rear panel (FIG. 1). Direct control requires connecting a mouse, keyboard and
display monitor to the AVM:
1.
Verify that the AVM is powered off.
2.
Connect a display monitor to the VGA Out (or S-Video) port on the rear panel
of the AVM.
3.
Plug a PC mouse and keyboard into the Mouse and Keyboard ports on the rear
panel of the AVM.
4.
Turn on the power switch and allow up to one minute for the AVM to boot up.
•
Once the AVM is finished booting up, the
Start
page is displayed, giving you
the option to play Movies, Music or Playlists. Use the keyboard to navigate and
make selections.
•
The AVM supports the following keystroke commands from the keyboard:
Left, Right, Down and Up arrow keys
: Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to
navigate through menus.
Enter
: Press to make a selection in a menu or list.
Esc
: Press the Esc key to return to the Main page (Movies, Music, Playlists).
During media playback:
Installation Guidelines
Cooling should be optimized around the AVM modules.
The modules should not
be installed in an enclosure or any environment that exceeds 35 C° / 95 F°.
In the case of the AVMs, the term
adequate ventilation
means sufficient cooling to
ensure a chassis temperature no greater than 35 C° / 95 F° during loaded operation
(i.e. streaming video). General methods of ensuring adequate ventilation/ cooling for
AVMs include:
•
Stacking of AVM units is not recommended.
•
All A/V equipment should be kept in a climate-controlled room
. Ideally, the
ambient temperature of the room should be maintained at approximately
75 F° to 80 F° (23.8° C to 26.6° C).
•
AVMs should not be mounted above any heat source.
Mounting AVMs Inside an Equipment Rack
AVMs should only be mounted in equipment racks that have some form of forced
airflow to prevent heat accumulation. Commonly, rack designs include an airflow
scheme that direct incoming cool air over the equipment and out of the rack cabinet.
Things to consider when rack-mounting the AVM(s):
•
All air intake and exhaust vents of the equipment rack/cabinet should be clear
of obstructions to optimize cooling.
•
Close any service doors on the equipment rack/cabinet when service is
complete.
•
If it is required that holes be drilled in the exterior cabinet walls (for wiring and
mounting), the holes should be packed and sealed with an appropriate sealing
compound when done. This is to reduce any modifications to the heat
exchanging qualities of the rack cabinet.
•
If any exterior panel is removed from the rack cabinet, it should be replaced
before use.
•
Any modification of the overall airflow scheme of the equipment should be kept
to a minimum.
Troubleshooting
Symptom:
The MAX Start Screen does not display once the AVM has booted up. This is an
indication that the AVM is not communicating with the MMS server.
Resolution:
In case of Ethernet communications problems, check the following:
•
The Link (L) LED next to the Ethernet port should be on (FIG. 3). If not, check
your cables and connectors.
Symptom:
The AVM will not boot when connected to a managed-network switch. However, the
AVM will boot when connected directly to the AVM Port on the MAX server. The error
you will receive is the following:
No DHCP or proxy DHCP offers were received.
Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
DISK BOOT FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.
Resolution:
Set spanning tree to port fast for each port that has an AVM connected, or disable
the spanning tree protocol. The spanning tree dampens broadcasts, so the request
never makes it to the AVM.
Refer to the documentation provided by the switch manufacturer to perform this
function. For more information, refer to the article(s) regarding

site.
