Casing Assembly
1) The propellant grains come pre-installed in the liner tube and the end that holds the nozzle goes against the nozzle
when assembled. ST and WT animals do not come with an igniter pellet.
2) Place greased o-rings into the grooves in the aluminum nozzle carrier.
3) Remove nozzle from liner tube and Install the nozzle into the nozzle carrier. See figure 1.
4) Wipe a film of grease on the I. D. of both ends of the case.
5) Using a twisting motion, install the nozzle carrier into the end of the case that has the external snap ring groove.
The nozzle is oriented so the step for the liner goes inwards.
6) Using the snap ring pliers, install a 54mm snap ring into the internal groove on the nozzle end of the case. To
prevent eye injury if a snap ring slips out of the pliers, wear eye protection and hold the motor casing at a right
angle to yourself.
7) Install the liner assembly into the case with the igniter pellet away from the nozzle end, until seated against the
nozzle.
8) Place a greased o-ring into the groove in the forward bulkhead.
9) On a flat surface, using a smooth motion, push the forward bulkhead assembly into the forward end of the motor
case until it is seated against the propellant grains. The forward bulkhead is oriented so the threaded hole faces
outwards.
10) Install the steel nozzle washers(spacer washers) in the case, seated against the forward bulkhead.
11) Using the snap ring pliers, install a 54mm snap ring into the internal groove on the bulkhead end of the case. To
prevent eye injury if a snap ring slips out of the pliers, wear eye protection and hold the motor casing at a right
angle to yourself. NOTE: It is normal if the grains rattle slightly inside the case.
Final Preparation
1) Install the motor in the motor mounting tube of the rocket. Make sure the motor assembly is securely held in
place by using a mechanical means to prevent it from being ejected from the rocket.
2) Prepare the rockets recovery system as designed.
3) Slide the protective shroud off the match head, far enough down the wires that it will not go into the nozzle when
the igniter is inserted all the way. Insert the igniter head into the nozzle and push until it stops against the top of
the motor core, bend a loop into the igniter leads one cap length from the nozzle exit. Slide the nozzle cap up to
the loop made in the previous step and firmly push the nozzle cap over the nozzle to retain the igniter
4) Launch the rocket according to the kit manufacturer’s instructions, the National Association of Rocketry (NAR)
or Tripoli Rocketry Association (TRA) Safety code, and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Code
1127.
