Maintenance rules for Li-Ion and Li-Po batteries:
• The fi rst charging process is crucial! Please charge the battery completely
before the fi rst use.
• Each battery has a limited number of charging cycles. Therefore charge the
battery not at every single opportunity or every power supply which might be
provided, but always use it as long as it is almost completely empty (10% to
20% charge state).
• If the battery gets discharged below its nominal voltage, it mightlead
to further processes, which damage or destroy the battery. Therefore,
the ALPENHEAT batteries have electronics that switch off the device
before such a deep discharge can happen.
• Frequent overcharging can permanently damage the battery. That’s
why the charger ends the charging process automatically as soon as
the battery is fully charged. Thus, please don’t supply the battery with
more power than necessary by reconnecting it again.
• Charging should normally only take place at room temperature (about
18 °C -21 °C). Avoid charging a cold battery, as this might damage
the cells. Especially at cold temperatures outside in winter, let the
battery fi rst get warmer at room temperature to prepare it for charging
and get it into optimal charging conditions.
• Also high temperatures might damage the battery. Never leave the
battery in the sun or in the car on hot sunny days. At temperatures
above + 60 °C, the Li-ion battery loses steadily of capacity and thus
in performance.
• If Li-ion batteries are either fully charged or empty, they should not be
stored for a longer period of time. The optimum storage determined in
complex test series is at a capacity of 40% to 50% and at low
temperatures of not below 0 °C. Storage at 5 °C to 10 °C would be an
optimal condition. As a self-discharge happens, they batteries should
be reloaded at least every 6 months.
• An unused battery should be stored in a cool but not cold place. Even
at an unused state batteries lose energy. For a Li-Ion battery, theenergy loss
is about 3% to 5% per month.
• If a Li-Ion battery is not used for a longer period of time, it should be recharged
after 6 months at the latest. The optimal charge cycle would be 3-4 months. This
is necessary because otherwise the battery will be irreparably damaged and
can no longer be used.
• Please always dispose used and old batteries in an environmentally proper
way.
