SERiES CiRCUiT wiTH BULB AND
mOTOR wiTH LESS pOwER
Use the circuit from Activity 8, but connect the switch to the central
exit of the battery holder, as shown in the diagram. In this way you
will only use the power from one battery. What do you observe? The
motor does not run but the bulb lights up. The motor does not receive
enough energy to work and in this case the motor is only needed
to let the current pass through the circuit. It cannot use the small
amount of energy from the batteries that runs through it, but lets the
current pass through the whole circuit. The motor becomes a simple
connector. The energy it needs is used to light up the bulb instead.
SERiES CiRCUiT wiTH TwO BULBS AND mOTOR
Make a series circuit with two bulbs and the motor. Do not put a
disc on the motor for the time being and close the circuit. What
happens? The motor does not run but the bulbs light up. The motor
does not receive enough energy to work properly when connected
to two bulbs. However, there is enough energy for the bulbs to
light up.
SERiES CiRCUiT wiTH TwO BULBS
AND mOTOR AND LESS pOwER
This circuit is similar to the last one, but this time use the power
from only one battery.
The energy is distributed among the three components and is
enough to make the bulbs work, which light up just a little (the
filament is orange).
While the motor does not run and is only needed to let the current
pass through the whole circuit.
