Revision (7-97)

Installation

  1. Position the Guide and Roller Assembly to correspond

with the mount position of the reel as required.
• Refer to section entitled Mount Positions for details.

  2. Mount the reel assembly with the appropriate hardware.

  3. Attach the connecting hose to Union Adapter (A).

  4. Feed the end of the material hose through Guide and

Roller Assembly (29) and the opening in Sheave
Assembly (19).
• Attach the hose to the Swivel Assembly.

  5. Loosely attach the material hose to the Sheave Assembly

with U-Bolts (18). *

IMPORTANT: Final U-Bolt adjustment must
occur after the hose has been pressurized.

  6. Rotate the Sheave Assembly to wrap the hose onto the

reel.
• The clicking sound is Power Spring (41) bypassing the

cam on the Spring Arbor.

  7.  Install the control valve as required.

• Use a thread sealant.

  8. Pull the hose fully from the reel and pressurize the

system.

  9.  Tighten the U-Bolts.

10. Retract the hose onto the reel.

11.  Install and secure the hose stop to the desired position.

Setting Spring Tension

CAUTION

Do not overwind the Power Spring. Too much tension
reduces the life of the Spring.

To adjust tension on the Power Spring:

12. Add / remove one coil of hose to / from the Sheave

Assembly.

IMPORTANT: When the hose is fully extended
from the reel, the Power Spring should be a min-
imum of 1/2 turn from a fully wound condition.

13. Repeat step 12 until the proper tension is achieved.

* Which slots in the Sheave Assembly the U-Bolts are

installed depends on the mounting position of the reel. Refer
to section entitled Mount Positions for details.

  6. Install Machine Screw (37) through the flanged end

of Latch Bushing (36).

  7. Install the Machine Screw and Latch Bushing

assembly through Latch Spring (35) and into the
Base Assembly.
• Make sure to attach the Latch Spring to the Latch

Pawl Assembly.

NOTE: Earlier models contain Latch
S p r i n g   ( 3 4 ) .  T h e   L a t c h   B u s h i n g   a n d
Machine Screw are not applicable.

  8. Install Nut (27) that secures the Machine Screw to

the Base Assembly.
• Tighten the Nut securely.

  9. Install the Base Assembly onto the Main Shaft of the

Spring Case and Ratchet Assembly.
• Make sure the Setscrew hole aligns with the flat of

the Main Shaft (aligned with mark).

10. Install Setscrew (31) that secures the Base Assembly

to the Spring Case and Ratchet Assembly.
• Tighten the Setscrew securely.

NOTE: Position the Guide and Roller
Assembly to correspond with the mount
position of the reel. Refer to section enti-
tled Mount Positions for details.

11. Install Guide and Roller Assembly (29) onto the

studs of the Base Assembly.

12. Install Locknuts (30) that secure the Guide and

Roller Assembly to the Base Assembly.
• Tighten the Locknuts securely in a crisscross

pattern.

Bench Test

While facing the Spring Case and Ratchet Assembly,

turn the reel in a counterclockwise direction and allow
the ratchet to engage the Latch Pawl Assembly.

If the reel does not tension or engage properly, check

that:

• Power Spring (41) is installed in the proper

direction.

• Spring Arbor (21) is oriented properly with the

Power Spring.

• Latch Spring (35) is connected to the Latch Pawl

Assembly.
