System Installation Considerations
This section describes items that should be considered before installing the BDSU system.
6.1.
Equipment Location
Consider the placement of the equipment in the event service is required. For example, access to the
rear of the equipment or visual access to the status lights may be needed. The equipment is convection
cooled and no cooling fans are used. To maintain proper operating temperature, the equipment must
not be enclosed in another cabinet without proper ventilation.
6.2.
Power Options
UXCM
There are several power options for the BDSU UXCM. The following are the service requirements for
each of those types:
45 – 145 watts for 115VAC/230VAC dependent on UXCM model
Less than 45 watts for 48VDC or 120VDC nominal
UXSM
The UXSM can obtain power from three different sources depending on the particular application used:
5VDC Wall plug Transformer (optional)
24VDC from a UXCM equipped with 24VDC output power connections
24–48VDC directly from a battery that the system is monitoring
The following considerations must be taken when wiring the above power options. The low voltage was
used to permit routing of wires without the use of conduit; however it is advised to consult and adhere
to the local electrical requirements. The maximum power requirement for the UXSM is less than 10W.
UXBM
The UXBMs will obtain power directly from the battery.
6.3.
Mounting Options
UXCM
The UXCM can accommodate two types of mounting; 19” rack mount or table top. If the rack mount
option is desired, optional brackets (included) will need to be installed. These UXCM brackets can also
be used for a table top installation allowing the unit to be tilted. This is useful if the equipment is
mounted on top of a battery cabinet and can be tilted slightly to see the status of the unit.
