Optimal Temperature Determination
The procedures for preparation of samples, standards, and reagents are the same
as when using an air-acetylene flame. The spectrometer operating conditions will
also be the same as when using an air-acetylene flame, except the Vapor mode
parameter should be set to ETC-60, when using this accessory.
The ETC 60 permits atomization of analyte hydrides at the appropriate temperature
for each analyte. The temperature of the electrically heated quartz tube is generally
lower than that of the flame heated quartz tube, and so the residence time of atoms
in the quartz tube is longer than when a flame is used. This results in greater
residence times for the atoms in the light path, resulting in an increase in sensitivity.
Typical improvements in sensitivity of around 20% or more can be expected,
depending upon the analyte.
