Connecting the Agilent 83433A to an 
Oscilloscope

The following procedure describes how to connect the lightwave transmitter 
to an oscilloscope. The following equipment is used:

• Agilent 83433A lightwave transmitter
• Pattern generator
• Clock source
• Optical multimeter
• Optical oscilloscope

Follow the procedure described i

“Performing a Quick Confidence Check” on 

page 2-6

After completing this check, connect the 

OPTICAL OUTPUT

 of the Agilent 83433A 

to the optical input of the oscilloscope.

Connect the trigger output of the pattern generator to the trigger input of the 
oscilloscope.

Evaluate the 

OPTICAL OUTPUT 

of the Agilent 83433A with the OC-192/STM-64 

filters and eye mask selected.

Note

Before starting, be sure to clean all connectors and optical interfaces using the proce-
dures describe in 

“Cleaning Connections for Accurate Measurements” on page 3-6
