This

section

provides

information

about

the

4338B 's

trigger

system.

SCPI

denes

the

common

trigger

model

for

several

types

of

instruments

.

This

trigger

system

allows

you

to

have

detailed

control

of

the

measurement

process

.

The

description

of

the

following

information

requires

more

technical

expertise

than

most

other

topics

covered

in

this

chapter

.

But

you

can

avoid

the

need

to

learn

the

information

in

this

section

by

using

the

INITiate

commands

to

make

your

measurements

.

4338B

Trigger

System

Conguration

The

trigger

system

synchronizes

the

4338B

measurement

with

specied

events

.

The

events

include

GPIB

trigger

commands

or

a

trigger

pulse

input

through

the

rear

panel

External

Trigger

connector

.

The

Trigger

system

also

allows

specifying

the

number

of

times

to

repeat

a

measurement

and

the

delay

time

between

measurements

.

The

4338B

moves

between

adjacent

trigger

states

depending

its

condition.

The

power

ON

state

is

called

the

idle

state

.

Y

ou

can

force

the

4338B

to

the

idle

state

using

the:ABORt

or

*RST

commands

.

The

initiate

and

TRIGger

Event

Detection

state

causes

the

4338B

program

to

branch

when

specied

conditions

are

met.

The

Sequence

Operation

state

signals

the

instrument

hardware

to

take

a

measurement

and

then

listens

for

conrmation

that

the

measurement

has

been

taken.

Idle

State

The

trigger

system

remains

in

the

idle

state

until

it

is

initiated

by

INITiate:IMMediate

or

INITiate:CONTinuous

ON .

Once

one

of

these

conditions

is

satised,

the

trigger

system

exits

downward

to

the

initiate

state.

that

*RST

sets

INITiate:CONTinuous

OFF .
