Soldering Basics
Repeat for all components, then carefully clip the
excess wire leads with your diagonal flush cutters.

Clean the board
with isopropyl
alcohol to remove
dust and oils from
handling.

Heat your
soldering iron to
about 700
o
F.
That’s about ¾ to
the max on your
adjustable iron.

Place your
components and
bend the leads
slightly to keep
them in place.

Hold the PCB
steady using a vise
or clamps.

Using the area just
above the very tip
of your iron, heat
both the lead and
copper pad.

Apply solder to the
heated joint,
pressing gently as
the solder melts.

Once the solder
has flowed all the
way around the
lead, remove the
solder from the
joint.
8
Remove the iron
from the joint and
allow the new
solder joint to cool
for several
seconds.
9
Admire the perfect
“Hershey’s Kiss”
appearance of the
perfect solder
joint.
