CONGRATULATIONS!

You now own the finest pedal made. A Morley.

The PWO is designed for years of trouble free operation. To insure your
satisfaction, please take a bit of time to read this book and acquaint yourself with
some of the features that may be new to you. Above all, we hope you enjoy your
new Morley PWO as much as we enjoyed building it for you.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Morley PWO is A.C. powered and photo-electric cell driven. There is no rack
and pinion gear nor is there a pot coupled to the pedal, as you might find in most
other pedals. The indicator light is the driving source for the PWO and must be on
for the unit to operate. Replace a damaged bulb using a factory replacement or a
#387 lamp as a substitute. A #327 may also be used in an emergency.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Plug the PWO into the appropriate A.C. source.
2. Connect the instrument to the PWO by plugging one end of a shielded cable to
the instrument and plug the other end into the input labeled “INSTRUMENT” on
the Wah pedal.
3. Connect the amp to the PWO by plugging one end of a shielded cord into the
input of the amp, and the other end into the remaining PWO jack labeled
“AMPLIFIER”.
4. Set the controls on your instrument, and your amplifier, to their usual settings.

TO USE THE WAH PEDAL

1. A footswitch on the right side of the PWO is used to switch the PWO to either
Wah mode or to straight-through position. When the straight-mode is used, the
treadle won’t have an effect on the sound, since the signal will bypass the pedals in
this position.
2. To use the PWO as a Wah, press the footswitch again.
3. As you press down on the pedal, the Wah moves a peak in the response from
the low range upwards to the high frequency range achieving a smooth, wide-range
Wah effect. Most musicians are familiar with the normal use of a Wah. By
experimenting, many musicians have found that the Wah pedal can be set in one
position, for an unusual tone effect that cannot be matched with amplifier tone
controls. Use the low end for jazz or blues, while setting the middle range for rock,
and use the upper range for a “little amp” sound with screaming highs which is
perfect for rock lead.

A NOTE TO GUITARISTS

The Wah in the Morley PWF has a response of seven octaves from 25 Hz to 4,000
Hz. This was designed to increase the flexibility to allow its use with keyboards
and bass guitar. Since the pedal range is far greater than the range the guitar is
capable of, the effect with the guitar is interesting. In the first ½” of travel, the Wah
peak is working in the two octaves below the last note on the guitar. The only
change the guitarist hears is in the volume of the guitar. This can be used
effectively in performance. Toe up to use it for rhythm, toe down ½” to play lead
and beyond ½” to play lead using the wah.
