1. Install fire curtain.
Assemble per system drawings
including safety chains, battens and all other
components.
2. Balance fire curtain.
Adjust weights in arbor(s) until
curtain is balanced with curtain closed.
3. Install the dashpot.
■
Anchor the dash pot to the floor. The anchors/
fasteners must be designed to resist the loads
resulting from the dash pot decelerating the
curtain. J.R. Clancy recommends extending the
fasteners through the floor to steel backing plates
when possible.
■
The dash pot must be located so the cable passes
straight up into the arbor mounted dash pot cable
bracket.
■
The dash pot cable is equipped with a swaged stop
ball that engages the arbor at a fixed point near
the end of its travel. One end of the cable is fixed
to the building structure, reeved through the dash
pot sheave, up through the arbor mounted dash
pot cable bracket, and over one or more blocks on
the grid. A weight (round weight arbor) is attached
to the free end of the cable to keep the cable
taut. The cable should be adjusted so the swaged
stop ball engages the arbor when the curtain is
approximately 8 feet above the floor.
■
A shipping plug is installed in the oil reservoir
during shipment. Remove this plug and replace with
breather plug (attached to unit) prior to operating
dash pot.
4. Adjust dashpot and curtain weight.
■
Fully open dash pot valve.
■
Run curtain and time descent.
■
Adjust dash pot valve, curtain weight and safety
chains as required until curtain closes properly.
■
After adjustment, arbor weight should be within
5% of curtain weight.
