Setting Shut Height on Model “K” 
AMP-O-LECTRIC* Machines

1. INTRODUCTION

This instruction sheet describes the procedure for 
setting the shut height on the Model "K"

 AMP-O-LECTRIC Terminating Machines using Shut-
Height Gage 679655-[ ].

Reasons for reissue of this document are provided in 
Section 3, REVISION SUMMARY.

2. SETTING THE SHUT HEIGHT

NOTE

Gage Number 679655-1 should be used to get 

close to the proper shut height of the machine. Use 

an applicator and crimp-height comparator (refer to 

408-7424) to finalize the shut height/crimp height. 

The additional use of an applicator and crimp 

height comparator should NOT be required when 

using 679655-2.

To avoid personal injury during this adjustment, be 

sure all power to the machine is disconnected.

1. Disconnect all power to the machine.

2. Check machine shut height using Shut-Height 
Gage 679655. Refer to Specification 102-35022 for 
instructions on using the Shut-Height Gage 

679655-1. Refer to 408-8535 when using Shut-
Height Gage 679655-2.

3. If the shut height is incorrect, proceed as follows:

a. Remove the base mount cap screws and 
remove the base mount. See Figure 1.

b. Clean under the base mount and around the 
wedge area. Clean under the top base mount 
plate.

c. Center the wedge in the frame.

d. Tighten the collar on the adjusting screw by 
tightening the setscrew.

e. Replace the base mount -- with the cap 
screws loosened.

f. Remove any burrs from top of plate and from 
ram.

g. Loosen the adjusting screw by hand until the 
base is in its lowest position. Turn the screw 
clockwise. Refer to Figure 2.
