ENERGY STAR-COMPLIANT PCS

Some Energy Star-compliant computers (those that stay below 60 Watt limit when in idle mode) have a
CPU Standby Mode of operation. In this mode of operation the CPU bus timing slows down in order to
conserve power consumption.

In this type of PC, the ISA Bus timing specifications may be violated when in Standby Mode. As a result,
the E2200 Series Bus Mastering adapter is given incorrect information from system memory, causing it to
function improperly. Symptoms of this problem include sporadic packet transmission, and lost network
connection.

To correct this problem

,

enter the System Setup Utility, and disable CPU Standby Mode. Entering the

System Setup Utility will vary from system to system depending on the vendor.

Note that the CPU

Standby Mode setting is the only thing that needs to be changed!

1.2

RECONFIGURATION AND DIAGNOSTICS

If you wish to change the E2200 Series adapter’s configuration using the QuickSet Utility, or if you wish to
run the Cabletron Diagnostic Program:

you must make sure that no E22XX drivers are loaded. Make sure

that drivers are not being autoloaded by your system.

After reconfiguration, or when diagnostic testing is completed, reload your E22XX drivers.

1.3

RESETTING THE ADAPTER

The E2200 Series adapters are Bus Mastering devices; therefore they can only be reset correctly by power
cycling the computer. If a driver fails to load, or you encounter any other problems after configuration
changes;

POWER CYCLE YOUR COMPUTER to reset the adapter - and try again.
