Warnings
•
In the USA, federal law restricts this mask to sale by, or on the order of, a physician. (Rx ONLY)
•
The device should be used only with the ventilation system recommended by your physician or respiratory therapist. A
mask should not be used unless the ventilation system is turned on and operating properly. The exhalation ports
should never be blocked.
Explanation of warning:
Ventilation systems are intended to be used with special masks with exhalation ports to
allow a continuous flow of air out of the mask. When the ventilation system is turned on and functioning properly,
new air from the ventilation system flushes the exhaled air out through the exhalation ports. However, when the
ventilation system is not operating, enough fresh air will not be provided through the mask, and exhaled air may
be rebreathed. Rebreathing of exhaled air for longer than several minutes can in some circumstances lead to
suffocation. This warning applies to most models of ventilation systems.
•
If you experience any reaction or notice any redness or irritation of your skin, discontinue use and contact your
physician. The device consists of silicone, polycarbonate, polypropylene, nylon, polyester, and neoprene.
•
If oxygen is used with the ventilation system, the oxygen flow must be turned off when the ventilation system is not
operating.
Explanation of the warning:
When the ventilation system is not in operation, and the oxygen flow is left on,
oxygen delivered into the ventilator tubing may accumulate within the ventilation system enclosure. Oxygen
accumulated in the ventilation system enclosure will create a risk of fire. This warning applies to most types of
ventilation systems. Do not smoke while oxygen is in use. Note: At a fixed flow rate of supplemental oxygen flow, the
inhaled oxygen concentration will vary, depending on the pressure settings, patient breathing pattern, mask selection,
and the leak rate. This warning applies to most types of ventilation systems.
•
At low CPAP pressures, the flow through the exhalation ports may be inadequate to clear all exhaled gas from the
tubing. Some rebreathing may occur.
•
A minimum pressure of 3.0 cm H20 at the mask is required.
•
The anti-asphyxia valve allows the patient to breathe room air in the case that the CPAP/Bi-level device connected to
the mask is not operating or is turned “off”. The valve closes at operating pressures of 3.0 cm H20 and above. The
mask should not be used if the anti-asphyxia valve is missing, damaged, or not working properly. The large opening at
the valve should never be blocked.
•
Do not use the mask if vomiting or feeling nauseous. Failure to arouse and remove the mask after vomiting could result
in aspiration of vomitus. To minimize the risk of vomiting during sleep, avoid eating or drinking for three hours prior to
sleep. This mask is not recommended if the patient is taking a prescription drug that may cause vomiting.
•
This device is intended for single-patient use only and thus use by multiple patients is to be avoided due to the risk of
transmitting infection. Do not attempt to sterilize or use disinfectants on this device or any of its components.
•
The mask may deactivate the pressure alarm on some ventilation systems. Confirm that your ventilation system
pressure alarm works with the product before using the pressure alarm.
•
Any unusual chest discomfort, shortness of breath, stomach distention, belching or severe headache during or
immediately after use should be immediately reported to your physician.
Contraindications
This mask may not be suitable for persons with the following conditions: impaired cardiac sphincter function, excessive
reflux, impaired cough reflex, and hiatal hernia. It should not be used if patient is uncooperative, obtunded, unresponsive, or
unable to remove the mask.
Assembling the Device
1.
Prior to use, clean the mask as described in the cleaning instructions.
2.
Press the cushion completely into the shell.
3.
Attach the headgear to the forehead support by inserting the two loose straps into the slots on the forehead support.
Fitting the Device
1.
Clean and thoroughly dry your face before putting on the mask.
2.
Attach the circuit tube of the ventilation system to the elbow.
3.
Inspect the anti-asphyxia valve located within the clear elbow. With the CPAP or bi-level system turned off, verify that
the valve is positioned so that room air can flow through the large opening. Turn on the system; the valve should close
the large opening and system air should flow into the mask.
4.
Place the mask over the mouth and position the cushion flap under the chin. Pull the headgear back over the top of
the head.
5.
Attach the two lower buckles of the headgear to the cylindrical portion of the posts on the mask and pull the buckles
back (towards the face) until an audibl
e “click” is heard.
6.
Unhook the hook-and-loop closures of each of the headgear straps in pairs (top pair and bottom pair), gently pull until
the mask sits squarely on your face, and then reconnect the hooks. The mask should fit snug enough to prevent large
leaks yet still be comfortable. In general, a looser fit is better. Over-tightening may actually make leaks worse and
create discomfort. Next, adjust the over-head straps as necessary.
7.
Turn on your ventilation system.
8.
Breathe normally, and continue making minor adjustments until you have a comfortable fit with minimal leaks. If you
are unable to achieve a comfortable fit or to resolve any leaks, you may need an alternative cushion size.
9.
To remove the mask, you do not need to unhook each strap. Just unsnap the two lower buckles of the headgear from
the mask, and then lift the mask off over the head.
Cleaning Instructions
After Each Use:
1.
Remove the fabric parts from the mask as the fabric parts will be washed separately. The fabric parts should be
handwashed following the remaining instructions at least every 7 days. Do not machine wash.
2.
Remove the cushion from the shell.
3.
Handwash all components in warm, soapy water. NOTE: Only use pure soap and do not use alcohol, petroleum
products, or strong cleaners as these may cause damage and reduce the life of the product.
4.
Make sure that the exhalation ports on the elbow are free of any obstructions.
5.
Rinse thoroughly and shake excess water from interior surfaces of components. Allow all components to completely
air-dry, away from direct sunlight.
6.
Carefully inspect each component for any wear or damage. Discontinue use if you notice any cracks in the plastic, any
tears or hardening of the silicone, or significant fraying or loss of elasticity of the headgear, and contact your healthcare
provider for a replacement. Discoloration is normal after several washings and should not be considered sign of wear.

Advertencias
•
En EE.UU. la ley federal restringe la venta de esta máscara a médicos o por indicación de un médico.
•
La máscara sólo debe emplearse con el sistema de ventilación recomendado por su médico o terapeuta respiratorio.
Sólo debe usar la máscara cuando el sistema de ventilación esté encendido y funcionando en forma adecuada. Los
puertos de exhalación nunca deben estar bloqueados.
Explicación de advertencia:
Los sistemas de ventilación están previstos para usarse con máscaras especiales
con puertos de exhalación para permitir el flujo de aire continuo de la máscara. Cuando se enciende el sistema
de ventilación y funciona en forma apropiada, el aire nuevo del sistema de ventilación hace salir el aire exhalado
a través de los puertos de exhalación. Sin embargo, cuando el sistema de ventilación no está en
funcionamiento, no se suministrará suficiente aire fresco a través de la más2cara y es posible que el aire
exhalado vuelva a aspirarse. La aspiración del aire exhalado durante bastantes minutos en ciertas
circunstancias podría producir asfixia. Esta advertencia se aplica a la mayoría de los modelos de sistemas de
ventilación.
•
Si experimenta alguna reacción o nota enrojecimiento o irritación de la piel, deje de usarla y póngase en contacto con
su médico. La máscara está hecha de silicona, policarbonato, polipropileno, nylon, poliéster y neopreno.
•
Si se usa oxígeno en el sistema de ventilación, el flujo debe apagarse cuando el sistema de ventilación no esté
funcionando.
Explicación de advertencia:
Cuando el sistema de ventilación no está en funcionamiento y el flujo de
oxígeno está encendido, el oxígeno que ingresa al tubo del ventilador puede acumularse dentro del recinto del
sistema de ventilación. El oxígeno acumulado en el gabinete del sistema de ventilación producirá un riesgo de
incendio. Esta advertencia es aplicable a la mayoría de los tipos de sistemas de ventilación. No fume mientras use el
oxígeno. Nota: con una velocidad de flujo fija del flujo de oxígeno suplementario, la concentración de oxígeno inhalada
variará, esto depende de los ajustes de presión, del patrón de respiración del paciente, de la máscara seleccionada y
de la tasa de fuga. Esta advertencia es aplicable a la mayoría de los tipos de sistemas de ventilación.
•
A bajas presiones de CPAP, el flujo a través de los orificios de exhalación puede no ser suficiente para vaciar todo el
gas exhalado de las tuberías. En este caso podrá volver a respirar alguna cantidad del aire exhalado.
•
Se requiere en la máscara una presión mínima de 3,0 cm H20.
•
La válvula antiasfixia permite al paciente respirar el aire ambiente cuando el dispositivo CPAP/Bi-level conectado a la
máscara no funciona o ha sido desconectado. La válvula se cierra a presiones de 3,0 cm H20 ó superiores. La
máscara no debe ser usada si falta la válvula antiasfixia o si está dañada o no funciona correctamente. La abertura
grande incluida en la válvula no deberá bloquearse nunca.
•
No use la máscara si experimenta vómitos o siente náuseas. Si después de vomitar no puede levantarse y quitarse la
máscara, ello podrá causarle la reaspiración de los vómitos. Para reducir al mínimo el riesgo de vomitar durante el
sueño, absténgase de comer o beber durante tres horas antes de acostarse. La máscara no se recomienda si el
paciente está tomando algún medicamento recetado que puede causarle vómitos.
•
Esta máscara está prevista para uso de un único paciente por lo cual debe evitarse su uso en múltiples pacientes
debido al riesgo de transmisión de infecciones. No intente esterilizar o usar desinfectantes en esta máscara.
•
La máscara puede desactivar la alarma de presión de ciertos sistemas de ventilación. Deberá confirmar que la alarma
de presión de su sistema de ventilación funciona con el producto antes de usarla.
•
Deberá informar inmediatamente a su médico si experimenta malestar inusual en el pecho, falta de aliento, dilatación
de estómago, eructos o dolor de cabeza intenso durante o inmediatamente después de usar el dispositivo.
Contraindicaciones
El uso de esta máscara puede no ser adecuado para personas con las condiciones siguientes: función de esfínter cardiaco
afectada, reflujo excesivo, reflejo tusígeno afectado y hernia de hiato. No deberá ser usada si el paciente está poco
dispuesto a cooperar, aparece aturdido, permanece indiferente o es incapaz de quitarse la máscara.
Montaje de la máscara
1.
Antes de cada utilización, limpie el dispositivo como se describe en las instrucciones de limpieza.
2.
Presione el cojín con firmeza dentro el armazón.
3.
Coloque el arnés para la cabeza en el soporte para la frente insertando las dos correas flojas en las ranuras del
soporte.
Ajuste de la máscara
1.
Límpiese y séquese bien el rostro antes de colocarse la máscara.
2.
Ajuste el tubo del circuito del sistema de ventilación al codo.
3.
Inspeccione la válvula antiasfixia situada dentro del codo transparente. Con el sistema CPAP o Bi-level apagado,
asegure que la válvula esté situada de modo que el aire ambiente fluya a través de la abertura grande. Conmute el
sistema; la válvula deberá cerrar la abertura grande y el aire del sistema deberá fluir al interior de la máscara.
4.
Coloque la máscara sobre la boca y disponga la aleta del cojín debajo de la barbilla. Tire del arnés hacia atrás para
disponerlo sobre su cabeza.
5.
Sujete las dos hebillas inferiores del arnés para la cabeza a la parte cilíndrica de los pernos de la máscara y tire de las
hebillas hacia atrás (hacia el rostro) hasta que escuche un chasquido en la cabeza.
6.
Desenganche los cierres de Velcro de cada uno de los dos pares de correas del arnés para la cabeza (par superior y
par inferior), tire suavemente hasta que la máscara se ubique correctamente sobre su rostro y luego vuelva a conectar
los ganchos. La máscara debe ajustarse bien para impedir fugas importantes al tiempo que se siente cómodo. En
general, es mejor dejarla algo floja. Si la ajusta demasiado podría empeorar las fugas y sentirse incómodo.
7.
Encienda el sistema de ventilación.
8.
Respire en forma normal y continúe haciendo pequeños ajustes hasta que se sienta cómodo y con mínimas fugas. Si
no logra sentirse cómodo o resolver las fugas alrededor de la nariz, es posible que necesite otro tamaño de cojín.
9.
Para quitarse la máscara, no necesita desenganchar cada correa. Simplemente desabroche las dos hebillas inferiores
del arnés para la cabeza de la máscara y luego levante la máscara por encima de la cabeza.
Instrucciones de limpieza
Después de cada utilización:
1.
Quite el arnés para la cabeza de la máscara porque deberá lavarlo en forma separada. El arnés para la cabeza debe
lavarse a mano siguiendo las instrucciones por lo menos cada 7 días. No lo lave en la lavadora.
2.
Quite el cojín del armazón.
3.
Lave a mano todos los componentes en agua jabonosa tibia. Nota: use solamente jabón puro y no use alcohol,
productos derivados del petróleo o limpiadores potentes que pudieran dañar y reducir la vida útil del producto.
4.
Verifique que los puertos de exhalación del codo no estén obstruidos.
5.
Enjuague bien y sacuda el exceso de agua de las superficies internas de los componentes. Deje que todos los
componentes se sequen bien al aire, lejos de la luz directa del sol.
6.
Inspeccione cada componente para verificar desgaste o daños. Deje de usar la máscara si observa alguna grieta en el
plástico, roturas o endurecimiento de la silicona, o si el arnés para la cabeza se ha deshilachado significativamente o
ha perdido la elasticidad y comuníquese con su proveedor de servicios de salud para reemplazarla. Es normal la
decoloración después de varios lavados y no debe considerarse como un signo de desgaste.
