Application Guide

Security Camera Protection

A surge suppressor is needed to protect power, video and data circuits, because in a nano-

second, transients can disrupt, disable and ruin this mission-critical equipment.

Surge suppressor installation may be close-nipple up to a security panel or hardwired in

parallel to the power supply input terminal screws. A surge suppressor is recommended on

a video line head end (DVR) as well as the camera end to protect against damaging effects

of lightning, spikes, and surges. A surge suppressor is recommended on the pan-tilt-zoom

(PTZ) data line head end (DVR) as well as the camera end to protect against damaging

effects of lightning, spikes, and surges.

The

ASCO Model 252 (Edco HSP121BT-1RU)

is a hardwire 3-stage hybrid protector, featur-

ing a 15 amp replaceable fuse, failure indicator and noise filtering. In the rare event of the

unit failing, the equipment is removed from the load. ANSI/UL1449 Fourth Edition, Type 4.

The

ASCO Model 245 (Islatrol SP-6TVN)

 is industrial-strength surge suppression/filtering

device that plugs into a standard duplex receptacle. It features uniquely designed reposi-

tionable outlets for easy installation behind desks and other furniture and an external ground

screw to aid in single point grounding. ANSI/UL1449 Fourth Edition, Type 3.

The

ASCO Model 160 (Edco CX06 Series)

 implements three-stage hybrid technology.

Sneak and fault currents are mitigated with solid-state resettable fuses (PTCs). The Model

160 SPDs are designed in accordance with NFPA 780 requirements, with up to 20kA of

surge current capability.

The

ASCO Model 151 (Edco FAS-1/FAS-2)

is a multi-stage single pair surge suppressor

designed for high exposure applications. This product was specifically designed to meet

multiple low voltage protection applications in the fire/security and CCTV industries. This unit

will work for 24 volts AC or DC, up to 2.5 amps. UL 497B.

The rack-mountable

ASCO Model 160 (Edco RM-CX06-16R)

 Surge Protective Device is a

16-channel, coax SPD implementing three-stage hybrid technology. This device addresses

overvoltage transients with a primary gas discharge tube (GDT), and secondary silicon ava-

lanche diode (SAD) components. Over-current conditions such as sneak, and fault currents

are mitigated with solid-state resettable fuses (PTCs). UL Listed.

An

ASCO Model 175

surge suppressor is recommended on the PTZ data lines at the head

end (DVR), as well as the camera end. This is a two-pair (four-wire) module implementing

three-stage hybrid technology, allowing it to protect against multiple surge events without

replacement. The ASCO Model 175 easily plugs into the PCB1B base accessory.

A surge suppressor is recommended on the POE lines at both ends (camera and head),

to protect against damaging effects of lightning, spikes, and surges, the ASCO Model 184

(Edco CAT6-5POE-FF) is ideally suited for these installations.
