The following table describes the labels in this screen.
9.9 Voice VLAN
Voice VLAN ensures that the sound quality of an IP phone is preserved from deteriorating when the
data traffic on the Switch ports is high. It groups the voice traffic with defined priority into an
assigned VLAN which enables the separation of voice and data traffic coming onto the Switch port.
You can set priority level to the Voice VLAN and add MAC address of IP phones from specific
manufacturers by using its ID from the Organizationally Unique Identifiers (OUI).

screen to display the configuration screen as shown.

Active
Check this box to activate this protocol based VLAN.
Port
Type a port to be included in this protocol based VLAN.
This port must belong to a static VLAN in order to participate in a protocol based VLAN. See
for more details on setting up VLANs.
Name
Enter up to 32 alpha numeric characters to identify this protocol based VLAN.
Ethernet-type
Use the drop down list box to select a predefined protocol to be included in this protocol based
VLAN or select
Others
and type the protocol number in hexadecimal notation. For example
the IP protocol in hexadecimal notation is 0800, and Novell IPX protocol is 8137.
Note: Protocols in the hexadecimal number range of 0x0000 to 0x05ff are not allowed to be
used for protocol based VLANs.
VID
Enter the ID of a VLAN to which the port belongs. This must be an existing VLAN which you
defined in the
Advanced Applications
>
VLAN
screens.
Priority
Select the priority level that the Switch will assign to frames belonging to this VLAN.
Add
Click
Add
to save your changes to the Switch’s run-time memory. The Switch loses these
changes if it is turned off or loses power, so use the
Save
link on the top navigation panel to
save your changes to the non-volatile memory when you are done configuring.
Cancel

Cancel
to begin configuring this screen afresh.
Index
This is the index number identifying this protocol based VLAN. Click on any of these numbers
to edit an existing protocol based VLAN.
Active
This field shows whether the protocol based VLAN is active or not.
Port
This field shows which port belongs to this protocol based VLAN.
Name
This field shows the name the protocol based VLAN.
Ethernet Type
This field shows which Ethernet protocol is part of this protocol based VLAN.
VID
This field shows the VLAN ID of the port.
Priority
This field shows the priority which is assigned to frames belonging to this protocol based
VLAN.
Select an entry’s check box to select a specific entry. Otherwise, select the check box in the
table heading row to select all entries.
Delete
Click this to delete the protocol based VLANs which you marked for deletion.
Cancel
Click
Cancel
to begin configuring this screen afresh.
