21. Bring the loose end downward and thread through the port block and port 

cleat on the deck. Tie a stopping knot in the end of the line. 

22. Fasten one end of the mast retainer line (#9) to the starboard block plate loop 

using a bowline. Feed the loose end up, above the vang block, around the mast 

clockwise, back down above the vang block, and fasten the other end with a 

bowline to the port block plate loop. The mast retainer line should cross in the 

space between the vang and the mast. 

20. Feed the loose end of the line (#14) through the block near the tack, which 

is tied to the other end of the line you are holding. The line should be fed 

towards the aft.
