5.4 Speed control

Information

We cannot guarantee that competitive brands of voltage control devices and frequency
converters when used for rotational-speed control of our ventilators will function properly
and not damage the motor.
The EMC guideline is to be observed in connection with our control units. If the fans are
completed with components of other manufacturers, the operator is responsible for
keeping to the EMC guideline 2014/30/EU.

5.4.1 Electronic voltage controllers (phase cutting)

When controlling ventilators using electronic voltage regulators, motor noise can
occur (due to the system), which can be troublesome.

On fast running ventilators with a high level of air noise, this noise is relatively low. On
slow running ventilators with a low level of air noise, this noise may be dominant in
the lower speed range due to the occurrence of resonance.

For systems where noise is critical, we recommend using our

Fcontrol

 series frequency

converters with integrated sinusoidal

lter.

5.4.2 Frequency inverter

ZIEHL-ABEGG axial fans are suitable for operation with frequency inverters if the
following points are complied with:

Between the inverter and the motor, sinusoidal

lters should be incorporated which

are effective for all phases (sinusoidal output voltage, phase against phase, phase
against protective conductor) as offered by manufacturers. Please ask for our
technical information L-TI-0510.

du/dt

lters (also called motor or suppression

lters) cannot be used in place of

sinusoidal

lters.

When using sinusoidal

lters, screened motor leads, metal terminal boxes and

a second earth connection to the motor can, if necessary, be omitted. Check-back
by the supplier of the sinusoidal

lter.

If the operational leakage current exceeds 3.5 mA, earthing in compliance with
DIN EN 50 178, art. 5.2.11.1 must be provided. For this purpose there is a connection
for a second protective earth on the stator

ange. Tightening torque 2.7 Nm.

By using the integrated all-pole effective Sine

lter (phase to phase and phase to

ground), an absolute parallel control of fans without risk of damage for motors is
possible. Screened motor cables not required!
