The high voltage in the X-ray tube generates an electron beam which is
shaped and highly focused in the tube head before it hits the target ele-
ment. This spot hit by the electrons is called »focal spot«. The focal spot
forms the X-ray source. The term »focus« is also used for focal spot.
The radiation emerges in the form of a conical beam via the diaphragm
towards the X-ray detector.
NOTE
Due to increased losses during the conversion of the kinetic electron en-
ergy into radiation intensity, the tube head is heated up and must there-
fore be cooled. Cooling unit is located on the controller cabinet. The
cooling water level needs to be checked regularly. See chapter »Care«.

In the X-ray detector, the X-ray beams are converted into visible light in
a sensitive layer. This light is again converted into an electric charge by
the photodiodes located behind it.
