Deck Belt
Follow ALL safety precautions mentioned in this manual
when doing any maintenance on your mower.
The clearances for the retainers are listed below, and
measured with the blades engaged and engine OFF.

Verifying Deck Belt Retainers

The clearance for the “J” shaped retainers is 3/16”
To adjust the retainers, loosen the top nut slightly and
rotate into position. Hold the retainer in place while
retightening the nut

The clearance for the idle pulley retainers is 1/8”
To adjust the idle pulley retainers, loosen the nut on
the top of the pulley and bottom slightly. Slide the re-
tainer into place and tighten the nut back.

DANGER: Before making any adjustments or
servicing your mower, make sure the mower is on
level ground, the blades are disengaged, the brake
set, the key is removed, the engine is off and the
spark plug wires are disconnected from the spark
plugs to prevent inadvertent starting. If maintenance
or adjustments are being performed after operation
of the mower, allow the unit to cool since heat build
up could cause severe burns.

A line drawn from the center of the deck clutch pulley
to its belt retainer should be parallel to the rear of the
deck when the blades are not engaged.
To adjust the position of the deck clutch pulley belt
retainer, loosen the bolt slightly. Pivot the retainer into
place and retighten the bolt.
