CHECKING THE AIR INTAKE DUCT VALVE
1. Check:
• Air intake duct valve operation
a. Connect the vacuum/pressure pump
gauge set “1” to the air intake duct valve
“2”.
b. Check that the air intake duct valve oper-
ates when vacuum pressure is applied to
the valve using the vacuum/pressure
pump gauge set.
Faulty
→
Replace the air intake duct
valve.

CHECKING THE VACUUM LINE
1. Check:
• Hoses
Loose connections
→
Connect properly.
Cracks/damage
→
Replace.
2. Check:
• Surge tank
Cracks/damage
→
Replace.
3. Check:
• One-way valve
Cracks/damage/faulty
→
Replace.
TIP
Check that air flows smoothly only in the direc-
tion of the arrow shown in the illustration.
4. Check:
• Intake solenoid
Damage
→
Replace.
5. Check:
• Intake solenoid
Refer to “SELF-DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION
AND DIAGNOSTIC CODE TABLE” on page
9-40.
6. Check:
• Surge tank
Cracks/damage
→
Replace.

ASSEMBLING THE AIR INTAKE DUCT
ASSEMBLY
1. Install:
• Air intake duct (left)
• Air intake duct (right) “1”
• Air intake duct valve “2”
• Air intake duct guard
• Rubber damper “3”
TIP
• Install the air intake duct valve within the range
of stopper portion “a” and projection “b” inside
the air intake duct.
• Install the rubber damper “3” in the direction of
the illustration so that it makes contact with
stepped portion “c” of the air intake duct.
• After installing the air intake duct, make sure
that there is no gap between the air intake duct
(left) and the air intake duct (right).
