Checking the front brake pads and rear
brake friction plates
The front brake pads and the rear brake friction
plates must be checked for wear at the intervals
specified in the periodic maintenance chart.
TIP
This ATV is equipped with a wet, multiple-disc
type rear brake, which is located inside of the final
gear case.

Front brake pads
Each brake pad is provided with a wear indicator
groove, which allows you to check the brake pad
wear without having to disassemble the brake. To
check the brake pad wear, check the wear indica-
tor groove. If a brake pad has worn to the point
that the wear indicator groove has almost disap-
peared, have a Yamaha dealer replace the brake
pads as a set.
TIP
The wheels need to be removed to check the
brake pads. (See page 9-64.)

Rear brake friction plates
The rear brake friction plates must be checked
and, if necessary, replaced by a Yamaha dealer at
the intervals specified in the periodic maintenance
chart.
