11. Remove the outboard motor from the
test tank. For further details, see page
69.
12. Drain the cooling water completely out of
the outboard motor. Clean the body
thoroughly.
13. Install the silencer cover/cap (if
equipped) and top cowling.

Lubrication
1.
Change the gear oil. For instructions, see
page 87. Check the gear oil for the pres-
ence of water that indicates a leaky seal.
Seal replacement should be performed
by an authorized Yamaha dealer prior to
use.
2.
Lubricate all grease fittings. For further
details, see page 79.
TIP:
For long-term storage, fogging the engine
with fogging oil is recommended. Contact
your Yamaha dealer for information about
fogging oil and procedures for your outboard
motor.

Cleaning and anticorrosion measures
1.
Wash down the exterior of the outboard
motor with fresh water and dry off com-
pletely.
NOTICE:
Do not spray water
into the air intake.

2.
Spray the outboard motor exterior with
“Yamaha Silicone Protectant”.
NOTICE:
Do not spray when the engine is run-
ning. Also, do not spray near the si-
lencer or into the engine. Otherwise
the engine could be damaged.

3.
Wax the cowling with a non-abrasive
wax such as “Yamalube Professional
Polish”.

Flushing power unit
Perform this procedure right after operation
for the most thorough flushing.
NOTICE
ECM01531
Do not perform this procedure while the
engine is running. The water pump may be
damaged and severe damage from over-
heating can result.
1.
After shutting off the engine, unscrew the
garden hose connector from the fitting
on the bottom cowling.
