12. Connecting to a Personal Computer
Many users will wish to connect their Disklavier to a personal computer, so that they can access sound from the
computer or from the Internet. Sample connection configurations are described and illustrated below.
Computer connection enables the following operations.
1. The user can play MIDI data taken from the Internet.
• Computer must be connected to the Internet.
2. The user can create song data at the computer side using sequencing software, then play the data back at
the Disklavier.
• Requires installation of XGworks or similar sequencing software at the computer side.
3. The Disklaver can operate as the computer’s MIDI keyboard.
• Requires installation of XGworks or similar sequencing software at the computer side.
Connection Issues and Configurations
MarkIIXG
• The MarkIIXG includes its own internal XG tone generator. Connection to an external tone generator
is not required.
• The MarkIIXG’s TO HOST terminal can connect directly to the computer’s serial port via a serial
cable.
• A MIDI interface is not required.
• If using a Windows machine, a MIDI driver (serial driver) is required. This driver is not required if
using a Macintosh. (The driver is included with XGworks, and can also be downloaded from the
Yamaha website.)
MARKII
• The MarkII requires connection to an external tone generator (because it lacks an internal XG gener-
ator).
• For configuration below, the PC must be connected to a MIDI interface.
