R 1200 GS + Adventure
“Zyklop” Zusatzscheinwerfer / Auxiliary Light
1.
First attach the brake line protector to the bike using
the supplied fitting instructions.
2. Place the bike on the centre stand in such a way so that the
front wheel is in the air. Remove the seat(s) and disconnect
the negative (-) wire of the battery.
3. Remove the tank panels on both sides. R 1200 GS (-2008) : 2
quick connect fasteners on the outside and one from inside.
R 1200 GS (2008-): 2 bolts at the rear and one at the front.
Adventure: 2 bolts on the outside, and one Torx bolt on inside.
(Images A, B + C).
4. On the right side, carefully pull off the vent hoses and discon-
nect the fuel line by depressing the side of the quick connector
(Image D).
5. On the left side, disconnect the fuel line in the same manner
and unplug the electrical connector (Image E). Note that the
electrical plug has a locking tab.
6. Remove the two front fairng bolts and the rear tank mounting
bolts at the left and right side and remove the fuel tank by
lifting it toward the rear (Image F).
7. Remove the brake calipers, loosen the spindle clamp, pull out
the wheel spindle and remove the front wheel completely from
the bike (Image G).
8. Remove the front mudguard (fender) bolts (Image H). Tip: As
the bolts are glued in, it is easier to remove them by carefully
heating the bolts up with a hairdryer or hot air gun - but be
careful not to overheat and deform the plastic mudguard!
9. Loosely attach the support brackets at the front together with
the mudguard, using the supplied M5x16 bolts. At the rear use
2 washers on each bolt as spacers and attach the mudguard
with the supplied m5x16 bolts (Images I + J).
10. Stick a piece of the soft rubber foam to the underside (over
the thread) of the lamp carrier. Attach the lamp carrier to the
previously fitted brake line protector (see point 1), using the
round headed M5x8 flange bolt, and to the support brackets
with M5x8 bolts and steel washers (Image K).
11. Attach the “U” shaped lamp bracket (V1) to the lamp carrier,
using a round headed M6x8 flange bolt (Image M). Note: The
bracket is “leaning” backwards, see also image O.
12. Bolt the lower housing (Image V1) together with the lamp to
the upper housing (V2), using the supplied M6x16 bolts and
spacers (Images N + O).
13. Roughly align the lamp and tighten all bolts.
14. Remove the rear Torx bolt of the left side mirror mount. Unplug
the switch from the supplied harness and mount the switch
to the handlebar with a 5X30 mm bolt, flat washer and small
spacer sleeve (Image P).
15. Drill a small hole in the tab on the forward edge of the airbox
and attach the relay to the tab with a cable tie (Image Q).
Route the wiring along the existing wires towards the switch,
and connect the wiring to the switch. Route the wiring along-
side existing wiring/cables towards the Telelever suspension
towards the lamp.
16. Route the black wire of the harness (from the switch) to the
front park light. Pull the plug off, attach the black wire to the
blue-grey cable of the park light (Image R) using the supplied
quick connector (U2) and reconnect the plug.
16b.Alternative Connections (Recommended for USA): If your
bike is already fitted with an additional accessory outlet kit,
BMW part number
71607701460, you can connect the black
wire of the fog beam harness to the red wire of the accessory
adapter wire using the quick connector (Image S1). A second
alternative is to connect the fog beam to the optional BMW
accessory adapter wire (S2), BMW part number 61127700005.
If no accessory plug outlet is installed, neatly attach the excess
wiring to the frame tubing with wire ties.
Note for "Alternative Connection": If the ignition is turned off
while the lamps are still on, the lamps will continue to burn for
approximately one minute and then shut off. For best results
however, please switch the fog beam(s) off before switching
off the ignition.
17. Slide a small piece of shrink tubing over both light wire con-
nections. Connect the wires and position the shrink tubing
(Image W). Heat the shrinktube with a heat gun to neatly
shrink it over the connection. Attention: Excessive heat or an
open flame could cause damage to wiring or bike!!
18. Use cable ties to secure the wiring harness to the telelever
front suspension (Image T). Make sure to leave enough free
cable length for up and down movement, and also to allow the
front to be turned fully to both sides, without tensioning the
harness or restricting the movement in any way. You can cover
unused connectors with shrink tubing, or - if you possess the
necessary skill - remove them completely from the harness.
19. Neatly attach all wires with cable ties and ensure that the wire
are not pinched and will not chafe. Connect the red wire of the
harness to the positive (+) terminal of the battery. Connect
the brown wire of the harness to the negative (-) terminal
of the battery, while re-connecting the original ground wire
disconnected in step 2.
20. Reinstall the front wheel and brake calipers in the reverse
order of disassembly. Important:
Torque the spindle to 50
NM (36.8 ft-lb), the spindle clamp bolt to 19 NM (14 ft-
lb) and the caliper bolts to 30 NM (22.1 ft-lb) (Image X)
using a suitable torque wrench.
21. Reinstall the tank, side covers and seat(s) in the reverse order
of disassembly. Double-check that all bolts are tight. Before
riding, align and check the function of the lights and make
sure that the front is free to move from side to side without
restriction.
